In times of socio-economic stress many businesses need to review their business models, and new businesses emerge to meet new needs.

Successful businesses detect the signals created by regulation, changing consumer demand and investor pressure on business models.

John Mullins' book Getting to Plan B presents a framework for recognising the signals for businesses to review their business plans.  His case studies deal with businesses facing limits of investment capital, the appearance of competitors, or simple misjudgments of what customers are willing to pay for.   He focuses the lessons through the examples of entrepreneurial businesses, both traditional for-profit and social enterprises, in their first flushes of start-up enthusiasm.

Joining John will be Mark Chadwick, CEO of Carbon Clear and Sue Igoe, UK Director at RecycleBank, two young businesses which have been through more than one change of business model since their first Plan A.

We hope their examples will challenge and inspire us to think about how we pick up and respond to the signals that our businesses need to change track.

This evening will also see the launch of the Net Impact London Professional - Hub Kings Cross partnership, an agreement which:

  • provides Net Impact members with reduced membership of the Hub
  • provides Hub members with discounted entry to Net Impact events in London
  • encourages cross-networking of sustainability entrepreneurs and business professionals

*Getting to Plan B was co-written with Randy Komisar of Kleiner Perkins Caulfield & Byers.

Amazon readers rate his books around 4-5 stars.

Comments include "Mullins has been nominated for, and won, several prestigious teaching awards for many reasons – one of them is empathy. He can deliver a clear message by communicating at his audience’s level better than almost anyone."

"whether you're in marketing or senior management for an existing company or you're starting out on a new venture, you will find insight and guidance to make a business out of an idea."

"John's messages are always thoughtful and resoundingly practical. He has a great ability to present complex interrelated issues in a logical way, which speaks to his many years of hands-on entrepreneurial experience."
